The marketers are at it again...
Okay, so first we get downsized products while the price stays the same. Then they re-introduce the regular size as the BIG size with a BIG increase in price. Now, because they think we are becoming health-conscious, they are reducing calories per serving, sodium per serving, etc by the simple expedient of taking what used to be one serving and calling it two servings, or three, or six, or whatever makes their numbers work out. Campbells, NOBODY EVER HAS OR EVER WILL OPEN A CUP OF SOUP AND THEN SAVE HALF FOR TOMORROWS' LUNCH.
Maybe it's our fault. They have to compete with one another, and they have to put out food we will buy because we like it. So I guess they have to trick us into believing what we like is good for us. Kind of like politics in the USA these days. But in the end, who buys a candy bar and unwraps it, all the while planning to put away 2/3 of it so they can eat THOSE TWO servings at a later date? Yes, there are candy bars that are considered 3 servings.
And while I am on a rant, what's up with the demise of Small, Medium, and Large? That was good enough. At some places now what we used to call large is called REGULAR. That's so we will walk up and unthinkingly order a regular and buy more than we intended. Kind of like when you get used to gas pumps with the unleaded button on the left and then one station decides to switch them around and put SUPER Uneaded on the left so we will unthinkingly hit the button and buy the expensive stuff.
I get tired of always having to be on my guard lest those who want my business trick me out of more of it then I planned to give them. I think we all need to boycott anyone who does this stuff. We can start with Starbucks. I want a regular coffee. Why is your tall in your shortest cup? Did you think we wouldn't notice? I did notice. And I don't go to Starbucks anymore.
And here's the new rule. You can't have a medium as your smallest offering. Medium, by definition, is in between two other things, minimum; one smaller and one larger. This is not rocket science. Are we so dumb these days that we can't see what the marketers are doing? Wait...don't answer that.
I wish Andy Rooney was still around...he'd set them straight.
