When my daughter was 8, she and I took a dad/daughter trip to the west coast that summer. We went to Carlsbad Caverns, the grand Canyon, the Meteor Crater, Hoover Dam, las Vegas, the Mojave Desert, Highway 1 up the California Coast, the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, San Francisco and Berkley and Yosemite Valley. She liked Circus Circus in Vegas the best, I think. We won some stuffed animals.
